Antidepressants and benzodiazepines are the most commonly prescribed treatments for anxiety disorder. They are also associated with significant side effects, dependency risks, and — critically — a high rate of relapse when treatment stops. For many people with anxiety disorder, the desire to recover without medication is both understandable and entirely achievable.
SSRIs and SNRIs work by altering serotonin levels in the brain, which can reduce the intensity of anxiety for some people. Benzodiazepines produce rapid sedation of the nervous system. Neither addresses the core mechanism of anxiety disorder: sensitisation of the amygdala. When medication is stopped, the amygdala remains sensitised — which is why anxiety disorder so frequently returns after medication is withdrawn. Medication manages the condition. It does not resolve it.
Yes. The majority of people who recover permanently from anxiety disorder do so without medication. The mechanism of recovery — amygdala recalibration through neuroplasticity — is entirely natural and does not require pharmacological intervention. The Linden Method was specifically designed as a medication-free pathway to recovery, and has produced over 650,000 complete, permanent recoveries since 1996.
Important Note
"If you are currently taking medication for anxiety, do not stop it without consulting your doctor. The Linden Method can be used alongside medication — and many people taper off medication during or after completing the program, under medical supervision."
Recovery without medication is not harder or slower than medicated recovery — in many cases it is faster, because there is no chemical suppression of the recovery process. The Linden Method's structured program provides exactly what the brain needs to recalibrate: consistent low-arousal engagement, specific behavioural frameworks, and expert support from coaches who have themselves recovered without medication.
A clear next step
The Linden Method uses Threat Recalibration Therapy (TRT™), a structured process designed to recalibrate the automatic threat response that keeps anxiety active. Its focus is the response behind persistent fear, rather than managing each symptom separately. See the reported outcomes: the evaluation cohort’s average anxiety score moved from 18.28 (severe) to 2.84 (minimal). Read the evaluation for the study details, alongside clients’ own accounts of recovery.

Anxiety can feel like an alarm that has forgotten the danger is over. The Linden Method explains what keeps that alarm switched on — and the process for deactivating it.

I'm a professional actor who suffered with anxiety for about five years — a relentless mix of Pure-O and intrusive thoughts, ROCD, OCD, agoraphobia, monophobia, depersonalisation, derealisation and chronic insomnia.
Being an actor and working in a creative environment, anxiety is absolutely rife — many actors and creatives suffer in silence, convinced that the fear is simply the price of being in the profession. It isn't.
After trying numerous therapies and prescription drugs, I finally discovered the Linden Method and my life was completely transformed. A CBT therapist had previously told me I would never recover from anxiety and would spend the rest of my life in therapy and on medication.
Within two weeks of following the Linden Method, I was completely anxiety free. The intrusive thoughts, the depersonalisation, the insomnia — all of it lifted. I knew immediately that I wanted to become a coach and help others who were suffering as I once did.
"Recovery is not only possible — it is inevitable with this method."

OCD and intrusive thoughts consumed more than a decade of my life. Not the kind you see joked about online — the relentless, exhausting, terrifying kind that makes you question who you are and whether you can trust your own mind.
I spent years hiding it. Functioning on the outside while inside I was engaged in an exhausting battle with thoughts I couldn't control and rituals that gave me minutes of relief before the anxiety returned, stronger than before.
Multiple therapists. ERP. Medication. I committed fully to every treatment I was given. Some of it helped at the edges. None of it stopped the cycle.
The Linden Method reframed everything. The thoughts were not the problem — the elevated anxiety state producing them was. Once I understood that, and once I stopped engaging with the thoughts as though they were meaningful threats, the cycle collapsed.
I recovered completely. I now specialise in supporting people with OCD, Pure-O, and intrusive thoughts because I understand, from the inside, how isolating and misunderstood these conditions are — and how completely recoverable they are.
"OCD is not a life sentence. It is a fear response that has found a very specific channel. Change the response, and the channel closes."
