Chest pain is the anxiety symptom most likely to send people to A&E. The sensation can range from a dull ache to a sharp stabbing pain to a heavy pressure in the centre or left side of the chest — and it mimics cardiac chest pain so convincingly that even experienced clinicians initially take it seriously. The fear that chest pain generates creates more anxiety, which intensifies the chest pain, which creates more fear.
Anxiety chest pain is caused by several distinct mechanisms, all produced by the fight-or-flight response:
Always seek medical assessment for new or severe chest pain. Once cardiac causes have been excluded, the following characteristics are typical of anxiety chest pain: it changes in intensity with breathing or position; it is often accompanied by other anxiety symptoms (palpitations, dizziness, tingling); it tends to worsen with anxiety and improve when anxiety reduces; it is not brought on by physical exertion in the way cardiac pain is.
When to Seek Emergency Help
"If you experience severe chest pain with radiation to the arm, jaw, or back; sweating; nausea; and shortness of breath — particularly during physical exertion — seek immediate medical attention. These symptoms can indicate a heart attack. Anxiety chest pain is common, but medical assessment is always appropriate for new or changing chest symptoms."
Anxiety chest pain resolves completely when anxiety disorder resolves. The Linden Method reconditions the sensitised alarm centre, eliminating the anxiety response that generates the physical symptoms — including chest pain. Many participants report that chest pain, along with all other anxiety symptoms, clears within weeks of beginning the program.
A clear next step
The Linden Method uses Threat Recalibration Therapy (TRT™), a structured process designed to recalibrate the automatic threat response that keeps anxiety active. Its focus is the response behind persistent fear, rather than managing each symptom separately. See the reported outcomes: the evaluation cohort’s average anxiety score moved from 18.28 (severe) to 2.84 (minimal). Read the evaluation for the study details, alongside clients’ own accounts of recovery.

Anxiety can feel like an alarm that has forgotten the danger is over. The Linden Method explains what keeps that alarm switched on — and the process for deactivating it.

I'm a professional actor who suffered with anxiety for about five years — a relentless mix of Pure-O and intrusive thoughts, ROCD, OCD, agoraphobia, monophobia, depersonalisation, derealisation and chronic insomnia.
Being an actor and working in a creative environment, anxiety is absolutely rife — many actors and creatives suffer in silence, convinced that the fear is simply the price of being in the profession. It isn't.
After trying numerous therapies and prescription drugs, I finally discovered the Linden Method and my life was completely transformed. A CBT therapist had previously told me I would never recover from anxiety and would spend the rest of my life in therapy and on medication.
Within two weeks of following the Linden Method, I was completely anxiety free. The intrusive thoughts, the depersonalisation, the insomnia — all of it lifted. I knew immediately that I wanted to become a coach and help others who were suffering as I once did.
"Recovery is not only possible — it is inevitable with this method."

OCD and intrusive thoughts consumed more than a decade of my life. Not the kind you see joked about online — the relentless, exhausting, terrifying kind that makes you question who you are and whether you can trust your own mind.
I spent years hiding it. Functioning on the outside while inside I was engaged in an exhausting battle with thoughts I couldn't control and rituals that gave me minutes of relief before the anxiety returned, stronger than before.
Multiple therapists. ERP. Medication. I committed fully to every treatment I was given. Some of it helped at the edges. None of it stopped the cycle.
The Linden Method reframed everything. The thoughts were not the problem — the elevated anxiety state producing them was. Once I understood that, and once I stopped engaging with the thoughts as though they were meaningful threats, the cycle collapsed.
I recovered completely. I now specialise in supporting people with OCD, Pure-O, and intrusive thoughts because I understand, from the inside, how isolating and misunderstood these conditions are — and how completely recoverable they are.
"OCD is not a life sentence. It is a fear response that has found a very specific channel. Change the response, and the channel closes."
